Waste to Energy Facility update

Greater Dandenong Council has strongly opposed the issuing of a planning permit for a waste to energy facility to be built at 70 Ordish Rd, Dandenong South. 

Planning Permit Application

On Thursday 30 July VCAT concluded its hearing on the application for a planning permit to be issued for the proposed Waste to Energy facility at 70 Ordish Rd, Dandenong South. The Council was represented by its legal team at the hearing and remains strongly opposed to the proposed use. The decision of VCAT on the planning permit is awaited in due course.

EPA Works Approval

On 21 July 2020 the EPA issued a Works Approval for the proposed Waste to Energy facility at 70 Ordish Rd, Dandenong South. As is the case with the planning permit application, Council is also strongly opposed to the proposed use and the issuing by the EPA of the Works Approval.

The deadline to submit an appeal to VCAT against the EPA Works Approval, is 4.30pm on 10 August 2020 and Council will be lodging an appeal. Council is again using its legal representatives and is already undertaking further investigative work and obtaining expert advice in this regard.
