The new Local Government Act 2020 requires every Council to establish Governance Rules that describe the way they will conduct council meetings and make decisions.

Under Section 60 of the Local Government Act 2020, Bayside City Council must transition from Local Law No 1 – 2013 (Governance Local Law) to the format of Governance Rules by 1 September 2020.

This transition provides an excellent opportunity to engage with our community about governance and review key aspects of Council meetings from speaker time limits to accepting online petitions.

Community consultation on the proposed Governance Rules is open until Monday 10 August 2020 via a dedicated Have Your Say webpage.

Visit yoursay.bayside.vic.gov.au/governance-rules to find out more about proposed changes and make a submission to be considered by Council.
