Greater Dandenong Council services during stay at home restrictions

08 July 2020

The City of Greater Dandenong is committed to ensuring essential services continue to be delivered to our local community as metropolitan Melbourne re-enters stage 3 restrictions.

The Victorian Government has announced the Stay at Home restrictions will take effect from 11.59pm on Wednesday 8 July and will last until 11.59pm on Wednesday 19 August.

Dandenong Library will close at 6pm on Wednesday 8 July, while the returns chute will stay open for the time being. Customer service centres at Dandenong and Parkmore, and the Building and Planning counter at Dandenong will close to walk-in customers at 5pm on Thursday 9 July. You can still phone customer service on 8571 1000 or make use of online services at www.greaterdandenong.com. Community centres, sports centres, public swimming pools and sporting pavilions will all be closed from today. Council Meetings will be closed to the public during the stay at home period and we encourage people to watch them via the webcast. Parks will remain open for exercise, however social distancing guidelines still apply. Playgrounds, barbecues, skateparks  and outdoor exercise equipment will be closed.

Greater Dandenong Mayor Jim Memeti said Council staff continued to work hard behind the scenes to deliver essential services, including bin collections, immunisations and regulatory services such as animal management.

Council will continue to process planning permits and respond to customer service enquiries. It will continue to remove graffiti, repair potholes, respond to reports of dumped rubbish and maintain our parks and gardens.

“It is a shame to have to roll back many of the services we were restarting, but the health and wellbeing of our community is a priority,” Mayor Memeti said.

“Our community has shown over the past few months that they are looking out for each other and we encourage you all to continue the good work to help reduce the spread of Coronavirus. By following the stay at home directives we will help protect our most vulnerable residents and slow the spread of this virus.”
