Toowoomba Regional Council’s (TRC) 11 libraries will open for short visits across various opening times and days from today (Monday, July 6, 2020).

TRC Library and Cultural Services portfolio leader Cr Tim McMahon said residents would be allowed to: • browse items to borrow from the libraries’ collections (no in-house sitting or reading), • use public PCs for 30-minute internet sessions, and • access printing and photocopying services.

“Residents are encouraged to continue using our popular Reserve and Collect service that allows library users to reserve books, magazines and DVDs, through the library’s online catalogue or the MyTRLibrary APP,” Cr McMahon said.

“As reserved items become available for collection customers will be alerted by their chosen notification method of email, phoned message, or letter.

“The staged re-opening of library buildings and services includes practical measures to help residents comply with the updated health instructions in line with the state government’s Stage Three COVID-19 Roadmap to Easing Restrictions.

“Libraries, like many other facilities, need to comply with state and federal social distancing and total attendance figure guidelines.

“Council is introducing measures to ensure staff and library visitors can safely resume more services.”

To maintain public health and safety, the following guidelines will apply across TRC’s 11 libraries from today (July 6): • All customers entering libraries will have their details recorded, (including the time they entered and left the library), for contact tracing purposes, • 30-minute session limits for public PCs, • No in-house sitting or reading. Customers can browse collections but cannot sit and read at the library. (tables and chairs either will be removed or seating areas cordoned off and newspapers will not be supplied for public reading. These measures are intended to ensure compliance with social distancing and limits on total numbers in buildings. They also help maintain a steady flow of customers through the building, and • Hygiene practices – hand sanitiser will be available at libraries’ front entrances and staff will wipe down surfaces, computer monitors, keyboards and seats and touch screens, where applicable. Self-issue kiosk screens will be regularly wiped down.

“Customers can return their borrowed items to our return chutes,” Cr McMahon said.

“Online membership is available for new members through the ‘Using Your Library’ page on the library’s website, while customers can also join in person in branches.

“Our e-library resources continue to be available to the community 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“We are grateful for residents’ continued patience as we move to resume services.”
