Ipswich’s population continues to climb, with 1,400 people moving to the city in the first quarter of the year.

Spring Mountain maintained its title as Ipswich’s fasting growing suburb, with 95 new dwellings and 279 people moving to the area in the first three months of 2020.

Redbank Plains recorded 156 new residents and 68 new dwellings, while South Ripley recorded an additional 163 residents and 53 new dwellings.

Ripley and Collingwood Park were again named in the top five fastest growing suburbs, with 118 and 74 new residents respectively.

It brings the city’s total population to 226,857 people.

The statistics were released in Ipswich City Council’s Planning and Regulatory Services’ Quarterly Report Card for the first quarter of the year.

A total of 367 lots were created, while a further 603 new lots were approved in the period from January to the end of March.

Mayor Teresa Harding said the population growth statistics demonstrated that because of its lifestyle offerings and affordability, Ipswich is a destination of choice for residents.

“Our growth statistics show Ipswich is consistently ranked as one of the fastest growing cities in Queensland and in the top 10 nationwide,” Mayor Harding said.

“The latest figures show that 15 more people are moving to Ipswich every day. I wish to extend a warm welcome to all our new residents.

“Council is committed to improving the liveability and sustainability of our city. We need to work hard now, more than ever, to ensure the Ipswich economy continues to grow and diversify so that residents have access to local jobs.”

The Planning and Regulatory Services’ Report Card provides a snapshot of development activity and population growth across the city, including land subdivision, building works and applications for planning, building and plumbing.
