Hanging Rock, libraries to reopen

Published on 12 June 2020

More Council facilities are about to reopen, including libraries and Hanging Rock Reserve.

Most libraries in the shire are expected to reopen on 17 June and Hanging Rock Reserve is due to reopen on 23 June, in time for the upcoming school holiday period.

Some restrictions will be in place at Hanging Rock Reserve to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 including:

Limits on visitor numbers – once the designated number of visitors is reached, the reserve will close for the day – if you propose to visit please do so early. Normal entry fees will apply. Barbecues will not be available for use Some areas of the reserve including the Discovery Centre and the very top of the rock will remain closed to the public.

Visitors to the reserve are asked to practice good hand hygiene, maintain appropriate physical distancing and to not visit the reserve if they are unwell. Increased cleaning will be in place in respect to toilets.

The Hanging Rock Café will also re-open on certain days under different arrangements to normal. For up-to-date information, visit the café website (hangingrockcafe.com.au)

Libraries in Kyneton, Woodend and Gisborne are expected to reopen on 17 June. In the meantime, a Click and Collect service is in place. Romsey Library will not open to the public immediately as it is currently being used to accommodate Council staff. Click and Collect will remain available at this site. Chief Executive Officer, Margot Stork said these arrangements would be subject to ongoing review.

“The health and safety of visitors and staff is our top priority,” Ms Stork said.

“While government restrictions are easing, Council is taking a measured and careful approach to the reopening of all of our facilities. Once appropriate measures are in place we will look to reopen a service or provide access to public areas.”

Playgrounds, outdoor gyms, sports grounds, parks and some public toilets in the shire are available for public use. Other facilities yet to reopen include pools, gyms, libraries, some public toilets, Council service centres, community halls and sports pavilions.

Decisions regarding the opening up of services and any modifications in place will be made in coming weeks, and residents will be kept informed of any developments.
