As COVID-19 restrictions begin to ease, the Livingstone Shire Library service is pleased to announce its transition towards reopening its Yeppoon and Emu Park branches from Monday 15 June.

While there will be some restrictions upon the reopening of the community facilities to the public, the Library team has been working hard to make the transition as easy as possible.

Portfolio holder of Vibrant Community (Tourism, Events and Culture), Councillor Tanya Lynch said both library branches in Emu Park and Yeppoon will reopen with limited numbers permitted at one time, while Byfield, Marlborough and Mt Chalmers are currently operating at normal opening hours.

“Council would like to sincerely thank library-goers and the wider community for their understanding and patience during the closure of our library branches,” Cr Lynch said.

“We understand how important our library service is to many residents and we’re thrilled to be able to welcome you back again now that COVID-19 restrictions continue to ease.

“While there will be some changes to opening hours, the wonderful library team is gradually transitioning to reopening our library branches and reinstating its services in a way that protects the community as well as Council staff.

“For example, library staff will welcome you at the door to each branch and advise you how to proceed, using a rolling entry of one person out, one person in. Please understand there may be a wait before entry is permitted and we encourage users to limit their time spent in the library to ensure everyone has a fair chance to access the service.

“Library-goers will be encouraged to ensure they maintain the required social distance (1.5 metres), wash hands or use hand sanitiser on their entry to and exit from the library, they do not enter the library if they feel unwell and they take care not to touch items unnecessarily.

“This system will be under regular review and the community will be updated on future changes to the service once restrictions ease further, in line with advice from Queensland Health,” Cr Lynch said.

Council’s online library is always available offering access to its digital collections of eBooks, movie streaming and more.
