Tourism, arts, culture, libraries, sport and events are just some of the areas Councillor Tanya Lynch will get to explore during her term as Councillor, following the formal adoption of Council portfolios last week.

Portfolio holder of Vibrant Community (Tourism, Events and Culture), Councillor Lynch said while her portfolio covered quite a broad range of industries and areas of the community, it was an exciting new role to take on.

“I’m really looking forward to working hard and making changes for the better within our community across all areas of my portfolio and I welcome feedback and ideas from residents on anything they believe is an important issue,” Cr Lynch said.

“Coming from a management background in the hospitality industry for over 10 years, I understand the importance of tourism for our Shire and how local business and the wider community can benefit from this, both economically and socially.

“We live in such a beautiful part of the world and I’m excited to play my part and help support local groups, clubs, organisations and local businesses, especially as we all continue to navigate through the evolving changes and impacts of COVID-19.

“Following the easing of restrictions, Council is excited to bring a host of activities and events to the Shire, along with supporting local sporting groups and clubs as they begin to recommence their seasons.

“Although COVID-19 has impacted or temporarily slowed some projects from progressing, there are still numerous plans and projects getting underway including the Emu Park Art Gallery development, the former Yeppoon Mill Gallery redevelopment, several Place Making projects, Regional Arts Development Fund grants, Community Grants and Council’s Reconciliation Action Plan, to name a few.

“I also strongly believe in supporting the wonderful diversity and multiculturalism of community groups and individuals within our Shire and look forward to doing more work in this space to continue Council’s commitment towards creating a more welcoming and inclusive Shire.”

Cr Lynch is also a part of the following committees: Australia Day Awards Ceremony, Community Grants Panel, Regional Arts Development Fund Committee, Place Making Reference Committee and the Beach Day Out Planning Committee.
