Benalla Visitor Information Centre set for redevelopment

The Benalla Visitor Information Centre will be redeveloped to modernise the facility and improve the visitor experience.

The redevelopment, which will capitalise on the aesthetic and convenience of this prime Benalla location, will cost $1.524M and is scheduled to be complete by December 2021. It has received $500,000 from the Victorian Government’s Regional Infrastructure Fund, with the balance being funded by the Council.

Visitor servicing, which is a key part of Benalla’s tourism operations, will remain as a central function within the redeveloped facility, improving the visitor experience and providing greater opportunity to showcase the many visitor destinations and assets of the region.

The redeveloped Centre will also include a café offering and the Benalla Cinema. The Benalla Cinema, which has operated from BPACC for the last 10 years will move to the precinct, responding to community feedback that a more central location will increase use of the service.

Mayor, Cr Danny Claridge says this is a forward-looking progressive project that will bring significant and long-lasting benefits to Benalla.

“This project will benefit both visitors and residents by offering an improved visitor servicing experience, a modernised Costume and Kelly Museum, a centralised Benalla Cinema, a café and the overall precinct improvement,’ Cr Claridge said.

“As well as visitors, many local people use the Visitor Information Centre for information about things to do and what to see locally. Their experience, and that of our very important visitor community will be enhanced, driving economic benefit.”
