Mt Cannibal and Emerald Lake Park closed to visitors Published: 2 April 2020

Mount Cannibal and Emerald Lake Park will be temporarily closed to visitors from Friday 3 April 2020 until further notice.

General Manager Infrastructure and Environment, Peter Benazic, said: “We understand our community is disappointed that we have had to temporarily close our much-loved and highly utilised open spaces at Emerald Lake Park and Mount Cannibal.

“These are very popular areas that attract many people and are prone to gatherings, and when we also take into consideration the narrow tracks, we’ve made the difficult decision to close both reserves for the time.

“This decision was not made lightly and, whilst regrettable, is a necessary temporary measure to help ensure the health and safety of our community during this pandemic. We remain committed to doing all that we can and we are working very hard to support nation-wide efforts to help slow the spread of COVID-19, and this decision is in line with that commitment.

“Many other parks and trails across the shire remain open for exercise, but we ask all community members to please ensure you adhere to gathering and social distancing rules.”
