Play your role in stopping the spread of Coronavirus and saving lives

Gannawarra Shire residents are urged to play a critical role in stopping the spread of Coronavirus and saving lives.

All levels of government have put measures in place since mid-March aimed to reduce the number of confirmed cases and deaths.

“Just like our Federal and State government counterparts, Council is playing a major role in keeping all members of our community safe at this time,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.

“Many of Council’s services, events and facilities have been impacted by measures put in place, but we understand these have been implemented in the community’s best interests and will save lives.”

Measures residents can take to stop the spread of Coronavirus and save lives include:

Staying healthy with good nutrition, regular exercise, sensible drinking and sleeping well; Washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, sneezing, or using the toilet; Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth; Ensuring a distance of 1.5 metres is kept between yourself and others; and Practising social distancing by not congregating in groups.

“Ignoring social distancing requirements puts yourself and others at risk,” Mayor Learmonth said.

“Staying at home and keeping away from others will help save lives, including your own, your loved ones, neighbours or others in the community.

“We are all responsible for stopping the spread of Coronavirus and saving the lives of our fellow community members.”
