Emerald storm clean-up information

Posted on February 20, 2020

It’s all hands on deck in Emerald after a short, but wild, storm lashed the town on Wednesday 19 February 2020. While the reports of damage have been extensive, it appears there’s nothing too serious and the clean-up will mostly involve fallen trees and branches.

The Emerald Botanic Gardens is closed until further notice while crews clean up and clear debris. This includes the playground area on the western side near McIndoe Park, which has dangerous overhead tree damage. For your own safety, please do not enter the grounds. If you do, it will be at your own risk. Parkrun will also be cancelled this Saturday, 22 February 2020.

The Lochlees landfill site is the best place for people to head to for green waste disposal. The Lochlees facility hours have been extended over the weekend from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm Saturday and Sunday. Dumping green waste is FREE for residents and commercial operators until 5.00 pm Thursday 27 February.

If your green waste load contains other waste items you will be charged, so make sure you separate your green waste from general waste well.

Visit this page for more information on waste facilities.

The Emerald Resource Recovery Centre in Glasson Street will extend its hours and be open on Monday 24 February from 7.00 am to 5.00 pm.

Council is NOT going to conduct a kerbside clean-up. People can take green waste to the Lochlees landfill site for free and the hours have been extended to make it convenient to do so.

The Emerald Aquatic Centre is CLOSED 20 & 21 February 2020. Both pools need repair. Telephone service for the centre is also out. Contact number for the centre is 0428 787 733.

Information about power outages and road closures is always available at the emergency management dashboard.
