Better local shops in Brighton East
Bayside City Council 30 Jan 2020

Hawthorn Road North Village is the latest local shopping centre in Brighton East set to receive an upgrade.

The village, located at corner of Hawthorn Road and North Road, will receive new asphalt footpaths to improve accessibility and amenity and new furniture including seats, bicycle stands and bins.

The aim of the upgraded streetscape is to enhance the village to ensure it can continue to service the community and its role as a local retail and meeting place. Works should commence mid-Februrary and take six weeks to complete, weather permitting.

While the works are underway, the North Road/Hawthorn Road tram stop will be temporarily relocated to Northern Avenue. Please refer to signage with the centre for further information.

Along with the streetscape upgrade at the northern end of Hawthorn Road, major upgrades for the Brighton East Shopping Village at the southern end of Hawthorn Road are well and truly underway.

The majority of new footpaths have now been replaced and we will soon complete works to connect the outfall drainage system at the intersection of Clive Street and Hawthorn Road to help reduce the impact of flooding.

The final improvements will involve planting new garden beds and additional street trees. We anticipate full project completion by March 2020.
