Australia Day Award Winners Thursday 23rd January 2020 from 6:30 pm

The West Tamar Council Australia Day Awards were held on Thursday 23rd of January at 6:30pm in the Tamar Function Centre, with approximately 100 guests in attendance.

The awards recognise outstanding contributions to the West Tamar Community, with presentations made in the categories of ‘Citizen of the Year’, ‘Young Citizen of the Year’, ‘Young Sportsperson of the Year’, ‘Community Event of the Year’ and ‘Community Group of the Year’.

 The 2020 winners are:

·         Citizen of the Year – Frances Graham, for a lifetime of volunteering, providing services and continuously giving back to the community within the West Tamar municipality.

·         Young Citizen of the Year – Josh Partridge, for contributions to youth activities and services in the West Tamar, sporting achievements, focus and building awareness of mental health in sport, as well as playing an active part in the Youth Advisory Council since 2012.

·         Young Sportsperson of the Year – Hayley Older, for her achievements with junior Netball, Northern Tasmanian Netball Association, State League Netball and Netball Tasmania, as well as the countless hours of support Hayley provides to her local sporting clubs.

·         Community Group of the Year – Neighbourhood Watch (Riverside) for the ongoing support and services provided to the community.

·         Community Event of the Year – St Anthony’s Fireworks Night 2019, for bringing a family friendly, affordable community building event to the West Tamar.

 

Mayor Christina Holmdahl said “The West Tamar Council Australia Day Awards recognise those in our community who have made outstanding contributions to our municipality. They come from all walks of life and give selflessly, often over a number of years. On behalf of the West Tamar Council and everyone in our community, I thank them most sincerely for their contributions”.

 

The West Tamar Council will hold a Citizenship Ceremony at the Windsor Community Precinct from 9am on Sunday the 26th of January, 2020.
