Tickets are now on sale for the region’s brand new Words Out West Readers and Writers Festival, which is set to take over the Western Downs from 14 – 16 February 2020.

The Festival will be held over three massive days, with a range of literary experiences and events on offer to suit every age and interest.

Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said Words Out West would offer a fresh, modern spin on traditional reading and writing, and encouraged people to clear the diary and be a part of this exciting new event.

“We’ve got a stellar line-up of acclaimed Australian authors, illustrators, cartoonists, journalists, bloggers and podcasters taking part in a range of events including workshops, presentations, panel discussions and kids’ events, and now is the time to secure your spot for these exclusive opportunities.

“This is your chance to learn from Australia’s literary best – such as talks from Tomorrow, When the War Began Author John Marsden, rural literature Author Fleur McDonald, narrator Stig Wemyss, and many more.

“On top of numerous talks and presentations hosted on 15 and 16 February as part of the Main Festival Days, tickets are also on sale for the Words Out West Gala Dinner which will offer a night of refined country glamour and feature keynote speaker Australian Paralympian and Author Kurt Fearnley and will be hosted by popular narrator Stig Wemyss.

“Another festival highlight is the overnight Writers Retreat, which will take place at the Bunya Mountains and delivered in partnership with the Queensland Writers Centre.

“There’s also plenty of free events on offer, including panel discussions with emerging local journalists, workshops with children’s authors, cartoonists and illustrators, and other fun activities across the entire Festival.

“Whether you’re into crime fiction or cookbooks – podcasts or picture books, there’s something on offer for everyone at Words Out West.
