Lessons learned and a strong focus on rebuilding the 19 localities affected by the recent bushfire event last week are key priorities that feature in a detailed implementation plan endorsed by Livingstone’s LDMG and formally adopted by Council.

Working closely with the LDMG, the Livingstone Shire Recovery and Resilience Group developed the planning document, which outlines the strategies and responses that are being implemented to support and guide the over-arching community recovery effort.

LDMG Chair, Mayor Bill Ludwig said one of Council’s top priorities for our region moving forward was to secure funding from both levels of government to provide assistance in facilitating mitigation efforts such as cool burns.

“Four taskforces have also been activated last week during the bushfire event which are all working on strategies and tasks to progress and inform the Recovery and Resilience process,” Mayor Ludwig said.

“The taskforces role will be to develop and implement effective strategies for community participation and partnership in the recovery process to empower and support our community in getting back on their feet.

“This whole-of-community approach includes input from agencies and organisations across a wide variety of sectors to specifically identify the needs of everyone impacted by this devastating event.

“Council will continue to work in close partnership with all organisations and agencies involved to achieve the best outcomes for our region as swiftly as possible.”

Economic Taskforce will include:

• Livingstone Shire Council; • Capricorn Enterprise; • Yeppoon Business Think Tank (Capricorn Coast Leadership Alliance) • Department of Tourism, Major Events and Small Business; • Regional Development Australia; • AgForce Queensland; • Business peak bodies and industry representatives; • Queensland Treasury; • Insurance Council Australia; • Department of Premier and Cabinet; • Department of Agriculture and Fisheries; • Department of Transport and Main Roads; • Department of Employment, Small Business and Training; • Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority; and • Queensland Reconstruction Authority; • Department of State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning; • Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy; • Department of Local Government, Racing and Multicultural Affairs; • Chamber of Commerce; and • Other key business groups and stakeholders including local primary producers
