The Karralyka 2020 Theatre Season has been unveiled, with a spectacular line-up of local, national and international talent performing in an array of styles and genres, from drama to comedy and song, and everything in between.

Next year marks Karralyka’s 40th birthday with a blockbuster 2020 Theatre Season program that will deliver some amazing experiences for people of all ages and interests.

Karralyka theatre members and community supporters were treated to a season taster last week, with the incomparable Joe Camilleri from The Black Sorrows and one of the country’s best and most respected tribute performers, Daniel Thompson, performing to a packed house during the launch of 2020 season.

The season kicks off in February with 40 Years of Broadway, featuring the best of Broadway hits by the Mountain District Musical Society. During March, enjoy Karralyka Under the Stars with two of Australia’s much-loved musical acts, The Black Sorrows and Vika & Linda.

Australia’s own ‘Man in Black’, Daniel Thompson, returns to Karralyka in April with his latest show based on music of Johnny Cash; and there’ll be plenty of laughs when the hottest acts direct from the Melbourne International Comedy Festival bring their roadshow tour to the Karralyka stage.

A rollercoaster contemporary performance arrives in June with SLAP, BANG, KISS by multi-award-winning playwright Dan Giovannoni; and in an exciting first, The Sapphires, a multiple award-winning musical play, will be spreading the joy in July.

The second half of the year sees The Rocky Horror Show: Interactive experience, as well as spellbinding illusions, music and choreography with Celtic Illusion Reimagined - a show that has taken the world by storm! And if you’re an Elton John music fan, you won’t want to miss this season’s Rocketmen - The Music of Elton John featuring Naomi Price and Luke Kennedy. And it’ll be One Summer not to forget when Aussie favourite Daryl Braithwaite performs classic hits from his days as frontman of the Australian band Sherbet and his solo career.

Karralyka will again welcome major theatre companies and their productions including the Victoria State Ballet’s classic tale of Swan Lake; and for the youngest of theatre-goers, The Gruffalo’s Child will deliver songs, laughs and scary fun with a magical musical adaptation from the award-winning picture book.

In November 2020, Karralyka is proud to support Your DNA Creative Arts, an all-abilities community-based art group that offers people with a physical or intellectual disability the opportunity to follow their passion for the stage.

Enjoy highly acclaimed shows and artists, with a stunning line-up of theatre, comedy, dance, cabaret, music, children’s shows and more – as well as the popular Toe Tapping Tuesday program, with music and complimentary tea, coffee and treats throughout the year.
