Residents in the small mining town of Glenden will welcome the chance to connect personally with Councillors when the Ordinary Monthly Meeting is called to session locally on Tuesday, 19 November.

Since the beginning of 2018, Isaac Regional Council has rotated the location of its regular meetings around the communities of the region on a bi-monthly basis.

Mayor Anne Baker encouraged Glenden residents and workers to make the most of their turn to engage with Isaac Regional Councillors during their upcoming visit.

“Council is committed to improving representation and promoting genuine inclusion and community engagement, which are key principles of the Local Government Act,” Mayor Baker said.

“The Isaac Region, encompassing 17 unique and wide-spread communities, covers more than 58,000 square kilometres, making it one of the largest local government areas in Queensland.

“Earlier meetings held in Mistake Creek, Clermont, Middlemount, Nebo and Carmila this year have proven to be very successful and we hope to enjoy a similar level of engagement in Glenden later this month.

“Our presence in Glenden for the meeting will provide local residents a greater opportunity to engage with the entire council in addition to Councillor Greg Austen, their divisional representative.”

Division 1 Cr Greg Austen said he is looking forward to welcoming the community to the free barbecue lunch being hosted at the Glenden Child Care Centre from 1pm – 2.30pm.

“Students from Glenden State School will be joining us in the morning to see the process of local government in action,” he said.

“Following this, we will be providing a free barbecue lunch for anyone who would like to come along and join us for a chat and bite to eat.”

Mayor Baker said it was an ideal time to come and meet the Councillors in person and discuss any local issues of importance in a relaxed setting.

“We look forward to visiting Glenden and catching up with the local students and residents and hope to see as many of you as possible on the day.”

Council’s final meeting for 2019 will be in Moranbah on Tuesday, 17 December.
