Upcoming water meter reading period

Posted on November 7, 2019

A Central Highlands Regional Council contractor will be reading water meters across the region between 15 November and 14 December 2019.

Usually water meters are located out the front of a residence, near the front border of the property.

It is important that the meters are accessible and free from obstacles.

An inaccessible water meter, either due to an obstruction, a locked fence or a dog, means the reading cannot be taken and an average value will be calculated for the billing period.

People who know that their water meter will be inaccessible should contact council to arrange a time for the reading to avoid being billed based on an average value.

This water meter reading will form the charges of the next water notice to be issued in April 2020.

This delay between reading the water meters and issuing the water notice is a result of the rates and water notice split council conducted in 2018.

Reading water meters in May and November aligned with the billing cycle for rates. Since splitting rates and water notices, council issues water notices in October and April.

Council is reviewing these timeframes with a view to read water meters closer to the issuing date of the water notice.
