Share your experiences to develop Access and Inclusion Plan

Shire residents living with disability or ageing issues are invited to help develop Council’s Access and Inclusion Plan.

Mayor Neil Trotter said Council wanted to hear the experiences of people with access challenges, their friends, family members, carers and service providers.

“Every community has members who are impacted by disability in way or another,” Cr Trotter said.

“We want to know what those impacts are and how we can go about meeting those needs.

“Council aims to have an accessible and inclusive community where everyone can use public facilities and get the information they need, in the format they need.

“Everyone has the right to full participation in community life and to feel a sense of connection with their community.

“The plan will guide Council in providing services that are accessible and equitable for our residents and educate our staff about with people with disability.

“We would appreciate if everyone could take a couple of minutes to complete our survey so we can gather their ideas and views.”

Corangamite Shire is working with Dylan Alcott's Get Skilled Access to understand needs and ideas for helping make our community as inclusive and connected as possible.

Dylan Alcott OAM is a three-time gold Paralympic gold medallist in wheelchair basketball and tennis, 14-time tennis grand slam winner, radio host, motivational speaker and music festival promoter.

"Dylan is an inspirational character and a powerful advocate for people with disabilities," Cr Trotter said.

“His organisation specialises in Disability and Accessibility Inclusion Plans and their expert skills will help Council break down barriers and create equal access for an inclusive community.”
