Baw Baw Family Day Care wins four awards

Baw Baw Shire Council’s Family Day Care service has won four awards at the 2019 Excellence in Family Day Care Awards for outstanding quality of care and service delivery.

Th awards recognise the amazing work done by educators, coordinators and services in the family day care sector to deliver high quality early childhood education and care to children across Australia. 

Award categories and winners Perpetual Star Award (National): Baw Baw Family Day Care team for contributing to over 15 years of quality service in the family day care sector and continues to thrive. Coordinator of the Year (Victoria & Tasmania Region): Julie Metselaar for her significant role in supporting family day care educators to maintain a high standard of quality education and care. Regional Educator of the Year (Bairnsdale & Gippsland Region): Tracy Lechte for her commitment to ongoing quality improvement, innovation and a commitment to quality care and education based on the core values of family day care. Regional Educator of the Year (Traralgon & La Trobe Valley Region): Martha Smith for her commitment to ongoing quality improvement, innovation and a commitment to quality care and education based on the core values of family day care.

Julie Metselaar, state winner of the Coordinator of the Year, will now go on as a finalist to represent Council’s Family Day Care service at the National Awards Gala Dinner in Hobart on Saturday 23 November 2019.

Tracy Lechte and Martha Smith, Regional Educator of the Year winners, have been recognised once again. Tracy has won three years in a row, and Martha an amazing four years in a row. Martha was the Victorian Educator of the Year in last year’s Excellence in Family Day Care Awards.

About Family Day Care

Family Day Care is a home-based Commonwealth Child Care Program operated by Baw Baw Shire Council. Care is provided for a maximum of four young children in the homes of registered and approved educators. Care may be full time, part-time or casual, with children also able to access care before and after school or kindergarten, outside regular hours or overnight.

Baw Baw Family Day Care is a consistently high-performing service, rated as Exceeding the National Standards under the National Quality Framework, designed by Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority. This rating means going ‘above and beyond’ what is expected at the standard level.

Earlier this year, Baw Baw’s Family Day Care program celebrated 30 amazing years of quality care and education for children and families in Baw Baw.

During 2018/19, Baw Baw’s Family Day Care program provided 130,460 hours of care to 323 children and 215 families across the Shire.
