Free microchipping a great opportunity for pet owners

Central Highlands Regional Council is encouraging pet owners to take advantage of a free service in a bid to increase regional compliance with domestic animal laws.
Coordinator Ranger Services Brett Keys said at this year’s Nogoa November, rangers are offering free microchipping to all dog owners whose beloved pooches are currently registered with council.
‘If you have a furry friend registered with council that is not microchipped, bring them down to the Emerald Botanic Gardens on November 30 and have them implanted for free,’ Mr Keys said.
‘If your dog isn’t registered yet, simply drop into one of council’s customer service centres before November 30 and register your animal to be eligible for this fantastic free microchipping event.’
Free microchipping is also being offered to cat owners whose moggies are de-sexed (proof of de-sexing required).
‘Council supports responsible pet ownership, so we’re encouraging everyone to take advantage of this opportunity,’ Mr Keys said.
‘You may need to pay the full registration fee for your dog to be eligible, however, this will pay off in the long run.
‘Once you have had your dog implanted, your annual registration fee will be cheaper the following year.’
Council asks all owners to ensure their animals are under effective control when they bring them down to Nogoa November.
Dogs must be on a leash and cats must be in a suitable transport pod or cage.
