Medieval Mastery heralds new entertainment for Children's Fair
City of Wodonga 4 Oct 2019

The world of Medieval Mastery will highlight this year’s Wodonga Children’s Fair on Sunday, October 27 at Wodonga Recreation and Racecourse.

Medieval Mastery will showcase living history with Border group – The Shire of Bordescros - to headline the day with activities ranging from battles to calligraphy and craft activities.

Dressed in costumes suited to the time of knights, squires and scribes, Bordescros will delight young children with their tales of long ago.

The Shire of Bordescros takes in all of the lands in and surrounding Albury-Wodonga and Wagga.

Bordescros Seneschal Lady Kolgrima Hrafnsdottir, otherwise known as Kim Palmer, said the group was looking forward to showing Wodonga their skills.

“Our shire is a bustle of activity and has seen some change and growth over the past few months,” Lady Hrafnsdottir said.

“The enthusiasm of all our members to attend continues to shine in service to, which will brighten our lands.”

As a requirement of the group, clothing aims to give people an idea to who and where your persona lived and at one time.

“This does on mean that you have to have the perfect garb, as the requirement is that it has to look right at five metres under candlelight,” she said.

“There was a lot of diversity between regions and cultures. Locations could even dictate what colours you wore because natural dyes were made from local plants.

“Your status was also reflected in your clothing, the higher your rank the better your clothing as you could afford to buy cloth, trims and accessories.”

Children’s Fair will also have a variety of entertainment and activities on offer throughout the day.

Dane the Magician will appear throughout the day with some magical entertainment while flower and unicorn stiltwalkers will rove the complex.

The animal nursery will be back in action with a duck slide, Reptile Encounters and Hannah will return with her show Super Circus Squad.

There will also be an arts and craft section with the theme of space and a sports bonanza with cricket, basketball, football, hockey and little athletics, as well as emergency services on show.

The fair is on from 10am to 3pm at the Wodonga Racecourse and Showground precinct, Hamilton Smith Dve, Wodonga.
