More than 100 business in Corangamite Shire have benefitted from Council’s Retail Area Façade Improvement Program.

At the September Meeting, Council allocated $50,000 in funding from the fifth round to 21 businesses across the Shire.

Council Manager Growth and Engagement Rory Neeson said the funding was spent on improvements to business façades, mostly by local tradespeople.

“The grants are allocated on a dollar-for-dollar basis which means thousands of dollars has been injected into the local economy through the program,” Mr Neeson said.

“We’ve got a really diverse assortment of businesses represented, including trades, hospitality, health services and more.”

Two of the premises are currently vacant and Mr Neeson said helping them make themselves more attractive to tenants could remove the negative impression made by empty shops.

“By improving the appearance and presentation of streetscapes in the Shire, we can keep local spending in the Shire, and attract more income from passing trade.”

The grants cover projects including cleaning, repainting, updating signage, installing lighting and repairing verandas.
