Western Downs Regional Council has announced a range of exciting new Australia Day Awards categories to recognise outstanding achievement across the region.

Nominations are now open, with new award categories aiming to recognise achievements of volunteers, community organisations, creative arts and culture, and sport related categories across the Western Downs.

Acting Mayor Ian Rasmussen said that the changes to the awards allows for greater recognition of the contributions that locals are making to the region.

“These awards are a great way to appreciate the outstanding people and groups who make real contributions to the communities in the region, both through volunteering and through successful personal achievement,” he said.

“A recognised culture of volunteerism is active throughout our communities and here at Council we want to take every opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the people that do their part to make the Western Downs such a great place to live, work and play.

“Our community members are the loudest advocates for what’s great about our region, so we’d like to encourage everyone to nominate the outstanding achievers, innovators, creators, leaders and visionaries in their communities, to ensure they get the recognition they deserve.”

Nominations for the Western Downs Regional Council Australia Day Awards 2020 close at midnight on Thursday 31 October 2019.
