Council Meeting Snapshot - 28 August 2019

To keep our community up to date with key Council decisions, outcomes and plans; here is a snapshot summary from Council’s Wednesday 28 August 2019 ordinary meeting.

Vibrant communities Council granted a planning permit (PLA0184/18) for a two lot subdivision at 1 Sandstock Drive, Warragul. One lot will contain the future development of the service station (approved by VCAT on 31 January 2019) and the other lot will contain the balance of the vacant land. Council refused a planning permit (PLA241/18) for the development of four hangers, club rooms and toilet block at Yuulong Road, Drouin South. Council deferred a decision on a planning permit application to seek further advice (PLA0350/18) for or a two lot subdivision and removal of covenant at 37 Rangeview Street, Warragul. Council endorsed the acquisition of Lot 101 Cromie Drive, Warragul. Acquisition of this site will allow Council to construct a playground, retardation basin and wetland area, and improve linear links for passive recreational use. Council received the report on the operational performance review of the 2018/19 season at the seasonal swimming pools and Rawson gym, and agreed to adopt 5.00pm the day prior as the nominated time to determine when a pool will open. Council received the report on changes to the Aged and Disability Regional Assessment Service and endorsed the following recommendations: Decline to tender for the Commonwealth’s new streamlined aged care assessment service; Develop a transition and exit plan from aged care assessments for when the Commonwealth’s Regional Assessment Service (RAS) funding ceases; Develop a staff communication and support plan; and Continue Home and Community Care Program for Younger People (HACC PYP) assessments. Agreed to accept the title to the Seaview Mechanics Institute and add it to Council’s property portfolio. Thriving economy Council agreed in its submission to the Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation (VCGLR) to object to the application for 52 electronic gaming machines (pokies) at 25 Mason Street, Warragul (Newmasons complex). Safe and sustainable environments Council noted the Council report on Local Government responsibilities in bushfire recovery (in response to the General Business Motion of 26 June 2019). General Business motions Council deferred a decision on planning application PLA0042/19 – 10 Hogan Court, Drouin once amended plans have been submitted to Council. Council moved a condolence motion for Mr David Dilger, Baw Baw Shire Council employee. What's next?
