APPROVED INSPECTION PROGRAM – DOGS

LOCAL GOVERNMENT ACT 2009 & ANIMAL MANAGEMENT (CATS & DOGS) ACT 2008

In accordance with section 133 of the Local Government Act 2009 and section 113 of the Animal Management (Cats & Dogs) Act 2008 Mareeba Shire Council resolved at its meeting on 21 August 2019 that a selective approved inspection program will be carried out on properties within Mareeba Shire, to monitor compliance with the registration requirements of the Animal Management Act 2008 and compliance with the provisions of Council’s Local Law No. 2 (Animal Management) 2018 regarding the provision that owners must provide a proper enclosure to prevent their dogs from wandering.

Purpose and Scope of Programs

To ensure that all dogs over the age of 12 weeks are registered in accordance with the Animal Management (Cats & Dogs) Act 2008 and that the owners of dogs have a proper enclosure that prevents their dog(s) from escaping from their property.  Council’s Authorised Officers will be visiting homes between the hours of 6.30am and 7.00pm Monday to Sunday, with the majority of inspections to be carried out during normal working hours, or at such time depending on the circumstances of the householder.  The programs will run for a period of three months.

Program Times

The selective inspection program for compliance with the registration requirements of the section 46 of the Animal Management (Cats & Dogs) Act 2008 will commence on 1 October     2019 and end on 31 December 2019. The selective inspection program for compliance with section 14 of Council’s Local Law No. 2 (Animal Management) 2018 – duty to provide proper enclosure and prevent the animal   from  wandering will commence on 1 October 2019 and end on 31 December 2019.

Properties to be Inspected

Properties that may be inspected include properties in the town of Julatten and surrounds and any other streets in the shire identified as areas having issues with problematic dogs.

Access to Resolution and Program

The public may inspect a copy of Councils resolution and the program at Councils office until the end of the program.  These documents will also be available to view on Councils website www.msc.qld.gov.au until the end of the program.
