The Cassowary Coast Regional Council is investing $1.55 million from its 2019/20 Budget in recreation and natural areas to enhance the liveability of the beautiful Cassowary Coast region.

Capital Works programs include Mission Beach CBD upgrade, walking tracks, park furniture, playground renewals, installation of health and fitness equipment at Kurrimine Beach and more.

Cassowary Coast Mayor John Kremastos said he believed the Cassowary Coast was one of the best places to live.

“We live in the very best part of Australia and, I say, the best part of the planet and this budget will serve to make it even better,” he said.

In other spending, Council has allocated $80,000 towards the Red Bull Defiance event at Mission Beach on August 31/September 1, $130,000 for the refurbishment and extension of the Wongaling Library at Mission Beach and $75,000 for the progressive installation of regional and township entrance signage throughout the region.

“We are also investing $150,000 for invasive plant and vegetation management on the Johnstone River as part of our caring for natural areas,” Cr Kremastos said.

“Another initiative for our young people is a bouldering and slackline wall on the Fitzgerald Esplanade.”

Cr Kremastos said the region’s Animal Management Services would also be enhanced with budgeting for Local Laws officer attendance at high-risk animal management situations at any time.
