Monday, June 17, 2019, 9am – 5pm A Matter of Time investigates the experiences of eight lesbians who lived in Queensland during the more socio-politically conservative mid-to-late twentieth century and how they interpret that experience to have informed their lives today. Since the end of the Joh Bjelke-Petersen government, conditions for LGBTIQ-identified Queenslanders have improved but remain a tenuous arrangement. As the struggle for LGBTIQ+ rights continues, it is important to accrue a historical understanding of the experiences of those who found themselves existing outside of the ‘norm.’ Some led double-lives, some hid in remote pockets of far north Queensland, while others lived openly, in spite of implied consequences.
