Boroondara Literary Festival 2019 promises a feast for book lovers

Join us for thought-provoking author talks, kicking off  with Melbourne crime writer J.P. Pomare on 29 May and heart surgery survivor Jeremy Scott on 6 June.

On 7 June, enjoy an evening with Rosalie Ham, author of The Dressmaker. Come on an adventure as author Ann Blainey discusses the life of remarkable pilot, Charles Kingsford Smith on 27 June.

We will then explore life changing books with bestselling author and literary critic, Michael McGirr on 29 July.

Hawthorn Library will host an Australian Poetry Slam heat on 9 July so bring your best words for a chance to go through to the finals at the Sydney Opera House! Or come to Painting in tongues, our regular night of spoken word poetry and open mic.

There is also a Chinese poetry evening with Ouyang Yu on 20 June at Greythorn Library Lounge.

Journey through history with sessions on the origins of language, writing and timeline of history through books, or find the best historical collections and podcasts online.

We will also delve into the history of some famous fairy tales and their modern retellings. 

On 27 August, come and hear about the important role of the PEN International writers association.

We have an event for every book lover in our regular program of book talks, chats and groups. You can also hear stories read aloud at adult storytimes

Kids can get creative with writing, zines, comics, poetry, fan fiction and choose-your-own-adventure workshops. We will also be dressing up for storytimes and crafts for Children’s Book Week in August.
