City of Ballarat welcomes today’s announcement that if elected at the 18 May federal poll, a Labor Government will invest $500,000 to provide female friendly and accessible change facilities at the City Oval.

The historic oval is regularly used by around 1500 people, however females, including netballers, footballers, umpires and Pleasant Street Primary School students, do not have access to appropriate change facilities.

Ballarat Mayor, Cr Samantha McIntosh says any funding will be matched by a co-contribution from the City of Ballarat.

“These upgrades will make a huge difference for women and girls using City Oval who have had to contend with inadequate facilities for too long. Netball is the biggest participation sport amongst females in Ballarat and the number of girls and women playing football is growing at a massive rate.

“Our hope is that the new changing facilities will also work to encourage more women and girls to play sport, as outlined in Council’s Active Women and Girl’s Strategy 2018”, Cr McIntosh said.

“I thank the Federal Opposition for its promise in relation to City Oval and call on other parties to match it”.
