Cassowary Coast Regional Council (CCRC) is inviting residents and visitors to have their say on the new look for Mission Beach.

CCRC has developed the draft Mission Beach Strategic Master Plan for the Mission Beach town centre and is now seeking contributions and ideas from the community that loves Mission Beach best. Council will consider all feedback, ideas and suggestions to refine and develop the final master plan.

The draft master plan was launched in the Mission Beach village green today by Cassowary Coast Mayor John Kremastos.

Cr Kremastos said the project envisaged revitalising the Mission Beach town centre into a vibrant hub and providing opportunities for visitors and locals to experience and appreciate Mission Beach’s exceptional natural beauty, unique environment, tropical lifestyle and laid-back atmosphere.

The draft master plan recommends a number of projects, including lowering the speed limit to 40km per hour along Porter Promenade, constructing new outdoor seatings areas in and around the village green and a viewing deck overlooking the beach and islands at the end of David Street, restricting David Street to local traffic, taxis and deliveries only, constructing a stage and new toilet amenity in the village green, creating a nature playground at Ulysses Park and a Wet Tropics World Heritage rainforest walk in Clump Mountain National Park.

An online consultation portal has been developed to ensure the community can have a say on the draft Mission Beach Strategic Master Plan.

Submissions made during the public consultation period will be reviewed by the project team and considered when preparing the final Mission Beach Strategic Master Plan. The final master plan will then be submitted for Council endorsement.

“Together, we can make the Mission Beach town centre one that meets the growing needs of our community and showcases our unique tropical lifestyle and exceptional natural environment to the rest of Australia and the world,” Cr Kremastos said.

All residents are encouraged to have their say on the project though the consultation portal at http://www.cassowarycoast.qld.gov.au/mission-beach-strategic-masterplan, or by emailing the project team via [email protected]. Alternatively, contact any Council Customer Centre by phoning 1300 763 903.

The draft master plan public comment period will remain open until March 29, 2019.
