Clean Up Australia Day focus on Lake Ranfurly

Published on 21 February 2019

Lake Ranfurly is set for a major clean up as part of Council’s 2019 Clean Up Australia Day community event.

To be held on Sunday 3 March, the event is not only a chance to tidy up one of our region’s popular natural areas, but an opportunity to meet like-minded people in a community setting.

Councillor for Environment and Farming Sustainability Anthony Cirillo said Council’s annual Clean Up Australia Day events provided a host of benefits to the community.

“The obvious benefit is removing any rubbish and collecting recyclable items from the Lake Ranfurly area, but it’s also helping to raise awareness in the community,” Cr Cirillo said.

“By taking part in this event and working with our own teams and members of the community you’ll learn more about the site itself, the potential damage littering in these unique environmental areas can cause and the correct way to manage waste and recyclables.

“And based on previous Clean Up Australia Day events in our region, participants always seem to enjoy a day out meeting new people with similar interests.”

Next month’s event starts at 11am and will run through until midday, when free light refreshments will be provided.

People wishing to take part can either enter on the day at the meeting point at the Lake Ranfurly carpark or pre-register by visiting https://www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au/register/lake-ranfurly.

Participants will receive a free pair of gloves and Clean Up Australia Day bags to collect rubbish and recyclables.

For those who can’t make this event, there may be others nearby which are listed at www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au.
