Feb 13, 2019 - Twelve young recruits join Council

Twelve young local recruits have joined the Cassowary Coast Regional Council workforce following an induction ceremony in the Council boardroom at Innisfail on February 11.

Four apprentices have been engaged through group training organisation TORGAS and eight trainees through group training organisation Skill360 and the Queensland Government-funded First Start program.

It is Council’s single biggest intake of trainees and apprentices and brings the total number of apprentices currently employed by Council to 12.  

The apprentices will support Council’s Workshop, Fleet and Water teams on a four-year engagement with Council.

Apprentice Boilermaker (Innisfail) Megan Nellist is undertaking Certificate 111 in Engineering – fabrication trade; Izaac Stephenson Apprentice Fitter (Innisfail) is undertaking a Certificate 111 in Engineering – mechanical trade; and Apprentice Carpenters Noah McIntyre (Tully) and Ayden Kris (Innisfail) are undertaking Certificate 111 in Carpentry.

The eight trainees are pursuing careers in Business, Business Administration, Customer Service, Information Technology and Horticulture and will support Council’s Libraries and Customer Service, Finance, Information Services and Parks and Gardens teams on a 12-month engagement with Council.

They are: Nicolas Del Sal, Local Government Trainee IT (Innisfail) – Certificate IV in Information Technology (Support); Travis Holt, Local Government Trainee Horticulture (Tully) – Certificate II in Horticulture; Hannah Spinella and Thalia Cook, Local Government Trainee Customer Service (Innisfail) – Certificate 111 in Business (Customer Service); Storm Romelo, Local Government Trainee Libraries and Tourism (Innisfail) – Certificate 111 Business (Customer Service); Maddie Crema, Local Government Trainee Procurement (Tully) – Certificate 111 Business Administration; Ashlea Hepburn, Local Government Trainee Payroll (Tully) – Certificate 111 Business Administration; and Natasha Sayers, Local Government Trainee Rates (Innisfail) – Certificate 111  Business Administration.

Mayor John Kremastos welcomed the new recruits to the Cassowary Coast Regional Council team and said the Council was proud to partner with TORGAS and Skill360 group training organisations and the Queensland Government through the First Start program to provide jobs and training for local young people.

“Our young people are our future and providing training and stable employment will help encourage them to stay on the Cassowary Coast and continue to contribute to a vibrant and prosperous Cassowary Coast community,” Cr Kremastos said.
