Meet your 2019 Boroondara Volunteer of the Year!
City of Boroondara 6 Dec 2018

On any given week, you can find John Lagzdins splitting his time between his volunteer roles as treasurer, board member and mentor for six local organisations.

After retiring from his 40-year career as an accountant, John has put his skills to work to benefit hundreds across Boroondara by improving community safety, encouraging greater participation in physical activity and supporting families affected by addiction.

It’s because of this outstanding effort that we were proud to announce John Lagzdins as our 2019 Boroondara Volunteer of the Year at our International Volunteer Day celebration.

John’s volunteer career spans across two decades, where the retiree’s efforts have benefited:

For John, the award is a chance to encourage others to consider ways to give back to the community.

“I think of it as an opportunity to show others you can be involved in a variety of things in the community, to help the community along,” said John.

John calls on everyone to consider taking up a volunteer opportunity.

“If you’ve got capacity, give back to the community.”
