Commencing in late November 2018, Derwent Valley Council staff possessing ID will be visiting properties throughout our municipality.  This is to conduct the annual audit program of unregistered dogs and educate the public in responsible ownership.

If you have an unregistered dog, over the age of 6 months, please register your dog to avoid being issued with a Caution Notice.

If an unregistered dog is found on your premises, a Caution Notice will be issued to the occupier of the premises under the Dog Control Act 2000.    A Caution Notice advises of non-compliance and gives you 28 days to comply (register your dog with the Council). If the Caution Notice is not complied with within that 28 day timeframe, an Infringement Notice will be issued under the Dog Control Act 2000 then follows with a penalty of $163.00 per dog.

Once an Infringement Notice is issued, you have 28 days to pay, seek a review, or go to court to dispute the notice.

If the Infringement Notice is not rectified within the 28 day timeframe, it will be lodged with the Monetary Penalty Enforcement Service for recovery.
