Construction on the third Gill Street roundabout is scheduled to begin within the next few weeks. The Gill and High Streets roundabout has already been marked out ready for crews to start work.

Work will progress over a 4 to 6 week period with the removal of existing pavement, pouring of the concrete for the roundabout, pavement reconstruction and road surfacing, island installation and road markings.

As part of the Gill Street Reconstruction Project, a total of 4 roundabouts will be constructed with the Gill and Church Streets roundabout commencing work by the end of 2018 or early 2019.

“Council would like to start on the 4th roundabout prior to the end of the year. However, an upgrade to the water mains in the vicinity of the intersection is scheduled to happen before the pavement upgrade.” said Cameron Scott, Director Infrastructure Services.

“In time all the roundabouts will ease congestion during peaks periods and increase road safety for road users.”

Council has also scheduled decorative works on the two existing Gill Street roundabouts at the intersections of Vulture and Boundary streets. Work will commence on Monday 8 October until Friday 12 October 2018.

“There will be lane closures during the decorative work and there will be traffic control in place as required. We know this may cause inconvenience and we appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation.” said Mr Scott.
