Who can vote at a local government election?

Anyone who is currently enrolled on the State Electoral Roll for an address in a municipal area, is automatically enrolled for that municipal area for a local government election.

Anyone who is currently enrolled on the State Electoral Roll for an address in a municipal area, is automatically enrolled for that municipal area for a local government election.

Voting information will be sent out to you by the Tasmanian Electoral Commission.

For those needing to enroll on the State roll:

Visit: www.aec.gov.au/enrol/ get an enrolment form from any post office, or ring 1800 801 701 and we can mail it to you.

General Managers Roll

People who own or occupy land in the municipal area but are not enrolled on the State Electoral Roll or people who are the nominated representatives of a corporate body which owns or occupies land in the municipal area, are also eligible to enroll, but must lodge an application on the prescribed form with the General Manager.

You may be eligible to enrol for the General Manager’s Roll under the below provisions:

a)      You are a resident in the West Coast municipality but are not eligible to enrol on the Tasmanian House of Assembly electoral roll (eg you are not an Australian citizen); or

b)     You own or occupy land in the West Coast municipality but do not live on the West Coast (eg you lease a shop or own a shack); or

c)      You are the nominated representative of a corporate body which owns or occupies land in the West Coast municipality.

To enroll under these special provisions, you need to complete the appropriate enrolment form and lodge with the General Manager before the close of roll, 6pm 13 September 2018.

Voting in council elections and enrolment on the General Manager’s Roll is not compulsory, however all those who are entitled to a vote are strongly encouraged to have a say in their municipal election.
