Council has received $1.45 million from the Territory Government for a street-scape project in Tennant Creek.

Barkly Regional Council is pleased to announce we have received $1.45 million from the Department of Infrastructure, Planning & Logistics (DIPL) for a street-scape Project in Tennant Creek.
Mayor Steve Edgington welcomed the cash injection from the Northern Territory Government.
He said that in May this year Council recommended to the Territory Government that it was time to consider a matching dollar for dollar grant program (with a limit) for local business / building owners to conduct crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) audits to improve security, lighting etc and refurbish the street frontage of properties on Paterson Street.
"As part of the $1.45 million, I am pleased to advise the NT Government has listened to our ideas and we have included Davidson Walk and Peko Road into the beautification program," he said. "Our Council is committed to making Tennant Creek and the Barkly region the preferred location to live, work, visit and invest in."
Council will soon establish a Project Control Group with DIPL to commence consultation with business owners and to focus on ensuring local jobs for local people and local opportunities for local business.
