Mayor thanks community as Games come to close

Mayor Tom Tate has thanked Gold Coast residents and visitors for their cooperation and participation in the biggest event in the history of the city.“It’s been an extraordinary 12 days for the Gold Coast. I’d like to thank each and every Gold Coaster for their patience and community spirit in helping to make this the best Games ever.“A record number of tickets were sold for our Games and to have full stadiums of Gold Coasters supporting the athletes no doubt contributed to the Games’ success and Australia’s record medal haul.“The success of the Games helps ensure our city will continue to reap the benefits in the coming years.”The Mayor also said the bump out of venues and Games infrastructure had already begun in earnest to ensure roads and venues could be reopened to the local community as soon as possible.“As sports and Festival 2018 venues are returned to normal operation, I want to thank the community for their ongoing patience,” he said.Mayor Tate said all essential information about venue, road, park and car park re-openings was available on the Get Set for the Games website, with the majority of roads open again by 18 April.“Waste collection services across the city will return to normal hours (6am - 6pm) from Wed 18 April, with the exception of Coolangatta - which will return to normal on Thursday 19 April. However residents are encouraged to put their bins out the night before to ensure their service is not missed.”For information visit: www.getsetforthegames.com  Feature video: Not featuredHomepage featured:
