More than 60 people attended the Building Better Organisations workshops at the Ibis Styles in Sale on Sunday 4 and Monday 5 June, hosted by Wellington Shire Council and supported by GippSport and the Department of Health & Human Services.

The workshops tackled a range of challenges groups, committees and organisations often face including: good decision making and communication; events success; finding local voices and learning what your community needs and wants; developing productive partnerships in your community; strengthening your grant application and social media.

A variety of groups and organisations were represented across the two days such as, neighbourhood houses, sporting clubs, community planning groups and progress associations, community halls, recreation reserve committees, show committees, service clubs and early learning centres. They came from across the Shire, Boisdale, Yarram, Loch Sport, Woodside, Golden Beach, Gormandale, Rosedale, Heyfield, Briagolong, Sale and Newry.

Wellington Shire Council General Manager Community & Culture Glenys Butler said: “We received some excellent feedback from the participants who felt the sessions provided a great opportunity to gain further knowledge and network with other people from other towns and groups. They also valued the opportunity to tailor the sessions and attend workshops that were relevant to them.”

Having the tools to successfully manage or be involved in local community groups, clubs, or committees is invaluable.
