MEDIA RELEASE - Methane Busting Seaweed

Cleve Mayor Phil Cameron is delighted to acknowledge the Australian Government will provide $3.8 million to CH4 South Australia Pty Ltd and the University of South Australia, to develop stock feed from native seaweed that will be grown and harvested in Arno Bay.

Part of the federal government’s Securing Raw Materials Program announced in the recent budget the native seaweed based feed can dramatically reduce dangerous methane production from farm animals. Methane that contributes to global warming.

‘Australian research has shown replacing 3% of a cow's diet with a type of seaweed native to this region has resulted in up to an 80% decrease in methane emissions’ Mayor Phil Cameron said.

‘Council has a bold vision to champion and embrace new technologies that are of a global impact, projects that can create new industries, new local jobs and help mitigate global warning’. Mayor Phil Cameron said

‘The District Council of Cleve has been working closely with CH4 for two years and elected members and staff are so excited to hear of this recent $3.8m funding success that will establish a critical seaweed production centre at Arno Bay’ Cleve Mayor Phil Cameron said.
