The entire family will be entertained at a free micro-chipping event being hosted by City of Darwin at Lakeside Drive Ovals, Alawa on Saturday 7 March from 9am to 1pm. Pets must be registered in order to receive free micro-chipping.   City of Darwin hosts regular Pets Day Out events to promote registration and provide support for animal training and socialising, veterinary advice and information on caring for pets.   The Lakeside Drive Ovals Pets Day Out will provide fun and entertainment for the whole family, with a gold coin donation BBQ, free face painting, kids play space and a free pet photo booth.   Pet owners will have the opportunity to speak directly with experts and service providers to discuss all aspects of their pets’ health and well-being, including Darwin Veterinary Hospital, PAWS Darwin, Octavia’s Pup and Top End Rehoming Group.   Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis invited pet owners to the free event.   “City of Darwin encourages all pet owners to register their pets.”   “This free micro-chipping event aims to promote responsible pet ownership and to highlight the benefits of registration.”   “At the Pets Day Out pet owners will be able to register pets and update current registration details,” Lord Mayor concluded.   There are many benefits to pet registration – owners can quickly be reunited with lost pets and City of Darwin offers a free loan service of bark collars and cat traps, access to animal education officers for home visits to assist with behaviour issues, along with a Pet Care help-line.   Free micro-chipping will save pet owners between $35 and $75.  Pets must be micro-chipped in order to be registered. Pet owners with de-sexed animals save nearly $100 annually on the cost of registration.   For more information visit: darwin.nt.gov.au/live/pets-wildlife/great-pets-start-with-you/overview
