Minister Speirs $70M for Basin Plan

Funds announced for the Coorong-Lower Lakes

Alexandrina Council welcomes today’s announcement by the Hon David Speirs MP, Minister for Environment and Water, that $70 million of unallocated South Australian State Priority Project (SPP) funds will be made available for measures to support the long-term health of the Coorong identified in the Healthy Coorong, Healthy Basin Action Plan.

Mayor Keith Parkes said, ‘this is an important milestone for the Basin Plan and great to see the Basin states come together and commit to the future health of the Murray, and importantly we look forward to seeing the details of the socio economic neutrality test.’

‘I also commend recovery of the 450GL of water as a great achievement for farmers. It is an excellent opportunity for irrigators to receive Federal Government investment in making their farms more efficient. This is overall a great outcome for primary production across the Alexandrina region.’
