2019 South Australia Australian of the Year Award Recipient

The City of Burnside extends congratulations to Dr Richard Harris SC OAM who has been named as the 2019 South Australia Australian of the Year. 

In July 2018, Adelaide anaesthetist Dr Richard Harris made worldwide headlines when he joined an international team to rescue a group of twelve boys and their soccer coach from a flooded cave in Chiang Rai, Thailand. 

This was a truly heroic effort and we are proud that one of our local residents has demonstrated courage, bravery and selflessness to assist and service our global community during a time of crisis. A truly outstanding achievement and both South Australia and the City of Burnside are fortunate that so many of our citizens are able and willing to lead by example and selflessly serve their community and country.

We wish Dr Harris every success at the National Awards in January.
