Emerging from Fire exhibition now open at Cardinia Cultural Centre Published: 5 August 2022

Cardinia Shire’s Emerging from Fire photographic exhibition is now on display at Cardinia Cultural Centre.

The exhibition is a visual reflection of the 2019 Bunyip Complex Fires, which directly affected the communities of Tynong North, Garfield North, Bunyip North, and Tonimbuk.

The exhibition features photographs taken by community members and first responders of the fire's response, relief and recovery efforts.

Council developed and curated the exhibition in partnership with the Community Recovery Committee following feedback that affected residents felt that having the opportunity to capture and reflect on their experiences was an important part of their recovery.

Cardinia Shire Mayor Councillor Jeff Springfield encouraged Cardinia Shire residents to stop by the Cardinia Cultural Centre and visit the exhibition.

"Emerging from Fire not only encapsulates the heartache and devastation of the Bunyip Complex Bushfires but also demonstrates the strength and courage of those affected, as well as the kindness and generosity of those willing to lend a helping hand in times of crisis,” Cr Springfield said.

“I thank everyone who contributed an image or article and commend them on their bravery in sharing their stories.

“This exhibition is an opportunity for Cardinia Shire to reflect on our community's resilience and look ahead to the future in these special parts of Cardinia Shire.”

An invite-only event for community members affected by the Bunyip Complex Bushfires will take place later this month at the Cardinia Cultural Centre.

Emerging from Fire will be available for viewing until Sunday 11 September.
