Charters Towers Regional Council has announced today they will host the town’s ‘biggest event since the goldrush’ to celebrate 150 years of Charters Towers.

The Rush Festival is an exciting weekend of entertainment and activities, with something for the entire family, commencing on Friday, 30 September through to Sunday, 2 October.

The Festival will combine Council’s popular annual Towers Rush festival with a street parade and music festival, featuring a jam-packed line-up of famous and well-loved Aussie artists including Ross Wilson, Dragon, Kate Ceberano, Busby Marou and Russell Morris.

Councillor Sonia Bennetto said Council is excited to announce the Rush Festival as the crescendo event for the region’s 150 year celebrations.

“This event really will be a fun, action packed weekend for all ages with activities planned to cater for the young and young at heart.

“Whilst the popular annual Twilight Markets and Towers Rush will form an integral part of the Festival, the addition of live music across the weekend is going to take it to new heights this year,” said Cr Bennetto.

A street parade will kick off the festivities on Friday afternoon, followed by a fun family night of markets, film festival, kid’s entertainment and great food.

The live music will start rocking at the Charters Towers Showgrounds from 2pm on Saturday afternoon with an 18+ event, and will continue on Sunday afternoon with an all ages event following Towers Rush.

“Visitors can also check out some of our other local attractions, including the option to pack the family in the car and head to the iconic drive-in to watch a new release movie under the stars; explore Towers Hill or the Ghosts of Gold Heritage Trail."

“We will be heavily promoting it, and we are expecting a rush,” Cr Bennetto said.
