Exciting projects on the horizon

AlburyCity has approved its Budget for 2022-2023, with some exciting projects on the horizon for our community.

The Budget includes Council's Four Year Delivery Program 2022-2026, which highlights the actions that Councillors have committed to deliver over their term. It also includes the Operational Plan 2022-2023, containing the key initiatives and projects in store for the coming financial year.

In 2022-2023, Council will manage a $165m budget, including a $56m Capital Works Program aimed at improving our infrastructure, streets, recreation & cultural opportunities and more.

The projects outlined in the budget are closely linked to things the community asked for during consultation for the 'Towards Albury 2050' Community Strategic Plan.

So what can we expect to see happening in our city over the next year?

$8.1m for road, bridge and footpath projects Our community will be better connected with key road upgrades such as the Thurgoona Link Road, as well as a number of new bike paths like the Albury CBD Bike Loop.

$10.4m for water and sewer projects Our pipes will be kept in working order with important water and sewer upgrades, such as the annual water main replacement / renewal and annual sewer rehabilitation programs.

$5.6m for environmental protection projects We'll continue to lead the way in waste reduction and keep our city green, including constructing a new Material Recovery Facility at the Albury Waste Management Centre.

$1.2m for flood prevention and drainage projects Our community will be protected from rain events with improvements to flood mitigation processes, such as upgrading the South Albury Levee at Australia Park.

$14.2m for recreation projects We'll encourage getting out and being active with new recreation facilities in the pipeline, such as the construction of the Albury Riverside Precinct, the reconstruction of Alexandra Park, and upgrades to the Lauren Jackson Sports Centre.

$3.1m for arts and history projects Our diverse art culture will be celebrated by creating opportunities for artists to share and create, with projects like public artwork at the Riverside Precinct, bringing the Historic Pumphouse back to life to house a maker space and creative residency program.

$3.4m for key community facilities Our city will continue to evolve with a focus on upgrading key facilities, such as an expansion of the Albury Entertainment Centre Convention Wing and design for the Emergency Management Centre Stage 2 project.

Mayor Kylie King thanked the community for their input into developing both the Four Year Delivery Program and next year's Budget.

"It is vital for our city that our community are involved in the conversation, as everyone plays an important role in helping shape our bright future," said Mayor King.

"I'm really looking forward to working together with Councillors, Council employees, and our community to deliver many great outcomes over the coming years."

AlburyCity CEO Frank Zaknich said this year will see our city continue to grow.

"We're committed to ensuring this growth happens in a sustainable way, whilst supporting a connected and vibrant community that celebrates its unique and diverse culture," said Mr Zaknich.

“I'm excited to see these key projects come to life as we move into 2022-2023."

The final budget documents will be loaded to the AlburyCity website in the coming days.
