To support ongoing storm recovery efforts, a free mental health event will be held the evening of Wednesday 15 June at the Woodend Community Centre.

Doors will open at 5.30pm with tea, coffee and snacks, with the session starting at 6pm. RSVPs are required, please register your attendance.

The past 12 months have been a very challenging period for many people. The storm that swept through the Macedon Ranges on 9 June 2021 was for some a stressful experience whilst for others it was frightening. It also left a widespread trail of destruction. In combination with COVID and lockdowns, it started to feel like sometimes life just keeps throwing curve balls.

‘Where are We Now? A Storm Recovery Conversation’ is a community information evening focussed on meeting the needs of storm-affected residents of the Macedon Ranges Shire. Disruption, stress, delays, fatigue, uncertainty about the future, and a realisation that there is still a lot of work to do, are all experiences that ring true for some residents.

This session will be facilitated by David Younger – Clinical & Consultant Psychologist, and an expert in the area of natural disasters and emergencies. David has worked with many communities and individuals throughout Victoria and Australia after severe weather events and disasters.

David brings a commitment and a sensitivity to the experiences and needs of those that join the sessions. Everyone is welcome, privacy will be respected.

Maria Weiss, Macedon Ranges Shire Council Director Community, encouraged storm-affected community members to attend, have a cup of tea with similarly affected residents and hear from one of Victoria’s leading clinical psychologists in the field of Recovery.

“Our community is incredibly resilient, but emergencies and severe events like the June 9 and 10 storm can disrupt everyday life for a long time afterwards. We know many residents are still cleaning up on their properties and that can take a toll on mental as well as physical health,” said Ms Weiss.

“Join us at this valuable session to unpack some of the typical reactions you may be experiencing after an event, learn more about what support is available and connect with other storm-affected residents.”
