Deputy Mayor election date set

Published on 30 March 2022

Mildura Rural City Council will conduct a Special Council meeting next Thursday 7 April at 6.30pm to elect a new Deputy Mayor.

The meeting follows the resignation of Cr Cyndi Power last week.

Under the Victorian Local Government Act 2020, Council is required to hold an election to fill the Deputy Mayor’s position within a month of the position becoming vacant.

Meanwhile, the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) has announced the countback to fill the vacant position on Council will take place online at 10am on Wednesday 20 April.

The Commission has indicated this is among the earliest dates the countback can take place.

According to the VEC, the countback will be determined by first preferences from the vacating candidate, which will be allocated to candidates participating in the countback from voters’ second or subsequent preference.

Residents can view next month’s countback live from the VEC website at vec.vic.gov.au
